What Makes Cacao Ceremonial & Medicinal

PREPARATION & BLESSING

For cacao to be considered ceremonial and medicinal, it must be prepared from 100% organic beans — to maintain the medicinal and healing benefits of its purest form — and in the most ethical and respectful work environment. The ceremonial process begins with the indigenous farmers who bless the land, the soil, and the planting of the cacao trees, which support the growth and harvest of the cacao pods.

ATTENTION & CARE

Each pod is carefully chosen and inspected, in order to keep only the freshest fruits. The beans are placed in natural wooden boxes to ferment, then they are transferred to a clean open space to dry in the sunlight, far from any pollution. The beans are hand peeled and carefully chosen, then ground to form the paste. The healthy fat, the fibers, and all the minerals are fully preserved, with nothing added or removed.

A Unique Kind of Cacao

Ceremonial cacao is unique in the world of botany and medicine, as it is not considered a psychedelic plant, yet comes with consciousness altering qualities. It contains bio-chemical components of tryptophan that build serotonin in the brain, and the release of phenylethylamine leads to an experience of love and bliss. Other bio-active chemicals, such as theobromine, tryptamine, polyphenols, and ethanolamines, bring joy, clarity, creativity, and a sense of greater connection. Yet, during the ceremony, we stay in the present moment, here on Earth, rather than leave the body, or hallucinate. We are more able to welcome our feelings and emotions as messenger of wisdom and transformation.

The 3 Main Categories of Cacao

INDUSTRIAL CACAO

Produced on non-organic farms, it is overly processed and roasted at high temperature, meaning that the beans have lost most of their healthy benefits. Many farms employ children, under poor working conditions, making this product a very low vibration food.

ORGANIC CACAO

Produced without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, which is better, organic cacao can also be overly processed and roasted at high temperatures, removing most of the medicinal properties of the beans.

CEREMONIAL CACAO

Ceremonial cacao is always organic and ethical. It comes from a long lineage of ancestral methods of production. The beans are individually selected by hand, eliminating the ones not fit to be eaten; fermentation occurs in wooden boxes, while drying happens in the sunlight; and each block of cacao is made with love and intention. The spirit of cacao is respected from the tree to your cup, making it one of the highest quality superfood on the planet.

The Highest Quality Cacao on the Planet

The Origin of Cacao on Earth

The cacao tree is cultivated in many parts of the world, but its origin comes from the rainforests of the Amazon basin, in South America. After many thousands of years, the cacao tree continues to grow naturally in the most pristine environments of Northern Peru and Southern Ecuador. Ceremonial Cacao was once used in sacred offerings, tributes to deities, marriage celebrations, rituals, funerary blessings, and as part of the creation myths of past civilizations.
